Some of the libraries used by kdenlive don’t properly support wayland yet. The option above forces it not to try to use native wayland, and forces it through the wayland XServer instead. No massive downside – the X server takes up a few resources but if you’re video editing then hopefully a few hundred megs of RAM usage is noise.
I’ve no idea if xwayland gets shut down automagically when you’re finished or not – might be worth checking if you don’t reboot often
