Latest wood carving project: Dragon Staff.

The wood is white birch. There was a blight on white birch this summer in the vicinity of my folks place in New Hampshire, which made it hard to find a piece of wood to work with. This piece had a touch of blight, so I didn’t feel to bad cutting it down. I was originally going to try to make a snout out of a small branch, but it quickly broke off, leaving the knot hole which is now the mouth. I had also originally planned on painting the whole thing, but fell in love with the mottled look of the inner bark.
